I could just give you a link to DAZ 3D right now so you could hurry over and download some of the best free 3D character models that come with DAZ Studio.
But I want you to read the rest of this post, so I will post the link at the bottom. Nice trick, right? It would be, but I really want you the read the rest of this post because I think it would be valuable to you.
You see, the models you get are able to be morphed into different shapes, sizes, and proportions. If you add some other body shapes from the 3D content library, you can pretty much create any 3D character you want. This is the equivalent of modeling your own 3D characters from scratch, without any skill.
I my opinion it is way better than modeling something from scratch because it takes just a few minutes, as opposed to a few weeks, or months to do the same kind of modeling in the conventional way.
I don't have the skill, but I also do not have to desire to spend that much time on something I can have right now.
DAZ 3D has so many different morph and body and face shape sets that you would never have to model another 3D figure ever again. This leaves me way more time to be creative, and to think more about the overall quality of my movie or 3D image I am creating.
The question is what makes a great 3D character to begin with?
The same question can be asked in lines to cinematic characters, or book characters. The simple answer is: depth! We as viewers can relate to this because we ourselves are complex creatures.
What might seem shallow on the surface is deep within. People wear their fake faces to work each day, but what they are thinking goes much deeper...
Anyway, depth in your 3D characters can exist on many levels. You want to fill your 3D Virtual World with characters that are immediately recognizable through detailed elements like: cloths, hair, facial expressions, skin color or tattoos.
Perhaps they wear scratched armor, or zombie rags, whatever it is it will determine the character very quickly. The next deeper level is found through action and dialogue.
Depending on what the characters say and do in your 3D Virtual world will show the true nature of him or her. Often complex characters will say one thing, and contradict it with what they do, and determines their true character. Indeed, free 3D character models can be complex and interesting too in DAZ Studio your free 3D character creator software.
